Rebecca

Rebecca Hodes is the principal investigator of Mzantsi Wakho’s qualitative research. She is the Director of the AIDS and Society Research Unit, University of Cape Town, and an Honourary Affiliate of the Department of Social Policy and Investigation, Oxford University. Hodes studied history at Rhodes University, and received an M.Sc in the History of Medicine, Science and Technology and a D.Phil from Oxford University. Her current work focuses on science, race and sex in South African history. She is the author of Broadcasting the Pandemic: A History of HIV on South African Television (HSRC Press, 2014). Her research has been published in AIDS, AIDSCare, the African Journal of AIDS Research, the Journal of Southern African Studies, the International Journal of African Historical Studies and the Social History of Medicine. She is a regular contributor to the Daily Maverick.
