Vuyo is a community and development graduate from East London and he joined Mzantsi Wakho in 2017. Vuyo’s work encompasses a wide range of responsibilities: Being the most senior field-work coordinator, Vuyo ensures that fieldwork runs smoothly in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment and provides extensive on-the ground logistical and administrative support for the project.

As a communications officer and stakeholder relations officer, Vuyo plays a key role in corresponding with Mzantsi Wakho’s partners as well as research dissemination, providing him with excellence experiences in cooperating with the Department of Education, Department of Health, and the Department of Social Development. Vuyo’s strong sense of initiative also got him involved in referring teens who have been identified as being at serious risk of harm (including hunger, rape victimization, suicidal ideation) to relevant support and services as well as planning and running sections of the participatory workshops with our Teen advisory group.

Vuyo is passionate, reliable and hard-working, works well under pressure and likes to be challenged in his job. He shows extremely good time management and excellent interpersonal and inter-cultural communication, successfully bridging communication in this international research-team. He has experiences with data-collection, research methodologies, data-analysis, research dissemination, NCOP insight visits, and project management. Before coming to Mzantsi Wakho, Vuyo served in the Community Development Students Society as well as a Residence Liaison officer in the Student Representative Council (SRC) of Howard College Campus, UKZN.
